Our People

Donna M. Cainkar

Donna Marie (Hall) Cainkar was born in Chicago, Illinois, and was married in 1979 to her husband, James (Jim) L. Cainkar, who is president of a local civil engineering firm. Together they have two children; the eldest is Paul who is employed as a systems engineer and resides in Boise, Idaho, and the youngest is Craig who is currently a Purdue University Honors student. Donna and Jim love to travel and can share information about many exciting travel destinations for those that care to listen! Additionally, Donna loves to read, garden, golf and attend live theater performances. She is particularly fond of Chicago Shakespeare Theater and attending plays written by our many local talented playwrights but she also enjoys ballet, opera, and the many music venues available in the Chicagoland area. These outings are often paired with a visit to her favorite food establishments in Chicago's Greek or Italian town. When asked if she prefers white or red wine, or white or dark chocolate, she will simply answer "yes"! Her volunteer services have included being treasurer for the West Suburban Chapter of the Heartland charitable organization, Chairwoman of the finance committee for the Burr Ridge/Willowbrook League of Women Voters, Den Leader for Cub Scout Den #7, West Suburban Council of Boys Scouts of America, and art appreciation teacher for St. Isaac Jogues school.

Before starting an independent practice, Donna had a career as a General Manager at Talman Savings and Loan (La Salle Bank) but found that she preferred helping people directly more than the indirect method via the employees in her charge. She was also concerned that a large corporation could be slow to offer new and better products to its customers that could be of great benefit to them. As a result, she had begun to research the newly available educational opportunity offered by the College for Financial Planning that led to her becoming a Certified Financial Planner. It offered both detailed knowledge and a procedural approach of how to coordinate all the important aspects of financial planning which included budgeting and cash flow planning, risk management planning including insurance, investments, income tax planning, retirement planning and employee/employer benefit planning, and estate planning. In Donna's mind, this seemed to be a necessary education for anyone who wanted to most effectively achieve their personal goals. She pursued this designation and built a practice on the premise that she could help others with this comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of financial planning. Through the years, she has truly enjoyed "coaching" her clients toward achievement of their personal financial goals. Seeing clients have successful outcomes is very rewarding to Donna and she looks forward to working everyday to help others do the same.
